What does this news mean for most of us? Well, it means that Google will rank mobile friendly sites in preference to non mobile friendly sites and non optimised sites could be at risk.
Having a mobile friendly website is also essential to a successful SEO strategy and the success of your brands website in 2015!
Google have recently stated the following "Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results."
A leading Googler was also recently quoted at a leading industry event as saying the mobile update will have more of an impact on Google’s search results than the Google Panda and Penguin updates - both of which it could be argued changed the landscape of SEO. Google are historically not in the habit of issuing such strong statements or even providing a date for such changes to take effect but as of the 21st April the Mobile Search world will change forever.
It is also predicted that responsive websites will be given preference in Google Search over dedicated mobile sites but this is yet to be seen. Google have also vaguely suggested that a responsive websites offer a better user experience over dedicated mobile sites but again we will have to wait and see…
