With the ever present pressure to constantly create new content for your blog or website, it can be difficult enough to think of creative, new subjects to talk about. However, eventually, after spending ages looking at a blank screen, wondering how to word the first sentence, being distracted numourous times by other websites, you have your finished article, all you need is an image or two to finish it off.

Easier said than done, a Google image search brings up thousands of results, but most images are protected by copyright and using these on your blog or website without the owners permission could land you in hot water.

If you don’t want to pay a handsome fee to an agency for the right to use their images, one option is to create your own illustrations or photos. However for those that don’t have the time, inclination or ability to produce a professional looking piece of artwork, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite websites offering royalty free images.

A huge site offering thousands of good quality, royalty and attribution free images and videos. All are tagged and categorised for easy searching, just look out for the Shutterstock images in amongst the free ones!

Thousands of photos uploaded by thousands of users. The quality varies, it’s also worth noting that any pictures used will usually require attribution

A small site but filled with a variety of high quality, some abstract and unusual images, all completely unrestricted.

A large site mostly with images that are more functional than creative, but useful none-the less. Also completely free.

Thousands of clip art pictures, icons and symbols. No attribution required.

A good collection of high quality photos. Great for background pictures.
