Twitter are broadening their horizons and have now announced their first partnership with two sites to syndicate promoted tweets outside of Twitter.
Lately, twitter have been stressing concerns that their growth is slowing down so it is no wonder we have seen a lot of changes. First with the updates to twitter itself, the main feature being the 30 second videos you are now able to upload and the ability now to group DM (direct messaging).
But their most recent announcement (Tuesday, 3rd February 2015) could play a much more important role in helping Twitter to make money and stop stressing about concerns of slow growth.
Twitter have partnered with Flipboard and Yahoo! Japan to begin offer advertising on Twitter but off Twitter. Sounds a little odd right? Let me explain…
Just like your normal Twitter Ad Campaign, you will run a promoted tweet campaign on Twitter with your specific ad copy, images and targeting, but at the same time you will be able to run this campaign off Twitter, so for example on Flipboard. This Promoted Tweet will then run on the app with the same image, ad copy and targeting.
Currently Flipboard already integrate organic tweets into their app, so the Promoted Tweet will have the same look and feel that is indigenous to the Flipboard experience. It also isn’t the only web/mobile application to offer this so I’m sure very soon we will be seeing Twitter partner with other services to offer this all over the internet.
Definitely sounds like a great opportunity for us marketers!
